An Optimist…

My son,Sumit, has composed a beautiful poem that I am sharing with you…

“The world is full of morons
And it probably starts with me
But I am still optimistic…
As we see it
As we hear it
As we read it
Not a single day passes by
When we don’t get to hear,
Of the horrifying stories
Of petty to gruesome crimes
Of murder, rape, incest, treachery
Of incidents of terrorism
Of rampant corruptionBut I am still optimistic… When I hear stories
Of reformed criminals
Now into social service
Of the victims of violence
Gathering courage to come forward
To bring the perpetrators to task
Of the awakening of the people
Coming together on a single platform
To protest and call for justice
And in keeping the memories
Of the victims alive
Till justice prevailsNot a single day passes by
When we don’t get to hear
Of people and kids dying
Because of hunger
Because of lack of shelter
Of people and kids suffering
Because of incurable diseases

But I am still optimistic… As among all negativities
We still have hope
In the form of good Samaritans
taking care of the needy
the weak, the old, the destitutes
of the people contributing
going that extra mile
to help them earn a better living
the charitable organizations
supporting the cause
as the guiding lights
seeing this but of course
gives me hope all the more…
Not a single day passes by
Without threats looming large
Of an impending war
With fears of it exploding
Into a nuclear war
Reminding us of the
Doomsdayers of the wars
And their prophecies
Not a single day passes by
Without threats looming large
Of the global economies collapsing
Resulting in layoffs, closures and bankruptcies

But I am still optimistic… When I see that we have
Surpassed so many such obstacles
Rising above and going beyond
Having survived
Many wars and wounds
But have chosen to forgive
And have moved on since
And having survived among others
The natural disasters
the quakes, the droughts,
the floods and other vagaries
of the nature but the mankind
not having failed has lived to tell its tale

I am optimistic
With the world
Having survived
One of the worst
Economic crisis
With the world
Having survived
One of the worst
Period of recession
With the world
Having not just survived
But having emerged
Stronger and wiser

I feel optimistic
While sitting here
looking at the sea
Its vast expanse
So free so powerful
So boundless
Wave after wave
Mightier with each stroke
Lashing the rocks
Furiously & fervently
And the rocks
Depicting the image
Of a man
Standing solidly
Against all odds

Share!”…
